Folk Music Canada Returns to Folk Alliance International 2019 with Stellar Line-up of CDN Talent

Folk Music Canada (FMC) is pleased to present outstanding Canadian artists at this year’s Folk Alliance International (FAI) Conference, February 13 to 17, 2019 at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montréal. Throughout the four-day event, FMC will present 40 showcase performances, co-sponsor the FAI opening reception, and, under the banner of FolkNorth, coordinate music business meetings and roundtable discussions for select artists and key international industry professionals. Showcase performances will feature artists from across Canada, the full schedule is available below and at folkmusiccanada.org.

Activities kick off Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 5 to 6 pm with an Opening Reception in the Edith Fowke Room (rm 219) sponsored by FMC, CIMA, Canadian Federation of Musicians, Folk Music Ontario, and Mondial Montréal. Following the reception, FMC is sponsoring official showcases in two rooms: 8 pm in the Harmonium Room (rm 216) with host Treasa Levasseur; and beginning at 9 pm in the McGarrigle Room (rm 212) hosted by Suze Casey.

FMC’s private showcases occur nightly in Room 321, Wednesday through Saturday, from 10:30 pm to 2 am. FMC will present a diverse lineup of seven artists each night hailing from across Canada — NWT to NS, showcasing all forms of folk music, including Blues, Singer-Songwriters, Traditional Fiddle music, Chamber folk, Celtic & Jazz fusion, and much more.

On Saturday afternoon, starting at 4 pm in the Robbie Robertson Room (rm 217), FMC is presenting more Official showcases. The stage will be hosted by David Newland and runs from 4 pm until 8:30 pm.

FolkNorth: FMC is hosting the 2019 edition of FolkNorth during the FAI Conference. FolkNorth is an export-based project of FMC with a mission to expand market opportunities for the Canadian folk industry and spotlighting the strength of Canadian folk talent on a world stage, many of whom are also official showcasing artists at the conference.

FMC will present the best folk artists Canada has to offer as the music kicks into high gear late at night, with private industry-presented showcases running into the wee hours of the morning. It’s an unforgettable experience for all, fostering connections and enriching careers of attending artists and industry members.
